Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP)

The Government have provided additional funding for eligible children to ensure that all children achieve their potential and raise their attainment whilst they are in a setting or a nursery school. This funding is available to low income families, children who are in-care or have been adopted and children with parents in the armed services.

In order to ensure that appropriate provision is made for children who belong to vulnerable groups we seek to meet the individual needs of every child. Not all children receiving the EYPP will be in need of interventions; many do well with the quality of provision provided for all those who attend Histon Early Years Centre and a flexible approach is important to allow us to meet the needs of your children.

So the Early Years Pupil Premium is used and managed by us to enable us to tailor support for identified children. This can be achieved in various ways.  Some children will benefit from specific group work, whilst others might be better supported through individual 1-1 work. The support will be reviewed with parents during the period of entitlement so as we properly understand the needs of the children and can monitor how the support is impacting upon their progress.

If you feel your child is eligible for early years pupil premium please do speak to Karen Scott or Tanya Mason and together we can ensure that your child receives the support they deserve.

Once we have been notified that a child is eligible for early years pupil premium we arrange to meet with parents to discuss the needs of their child. We attempt to be as creative and flexible in our approach to supporting your children’s learning, so no request from a parent will seem unusual. Extra speech and language sessions; play therapy; additional music or dance support; swimming with the family; supporting the purchase of school uniform to help a child with confidence in their transition; all can be considered if it is felt that this is the right support required.

All children at Histon Early Years Centre receive personalised provision and support, by having access to experienced and highly trained staff who create an early years curriculum, which is constantly under review and has been designed to offer the maximum flexibility to meet the needs of your children. We also offer one to one or small group teaching support to accelerate progression for those children who need that  little extra help with specific areas of the curriculum, including: communication and language; personal, emotional and social development and early learning skills such as matching, sorting, categorising, number work and early writing. We will also consider your needs too and can offer family learning; courses; 1-1 advice and support and counselling opportunities.

We will meet about 3 times in the academic year to share progress, review and adapt your child’s plan. Once your child has settled into their learning style we will begin to assess the impact of the support put into place and discuss the future targets to be achieved. We will have identified trends and perhaps decide that we could offer group support to some children, if that would be more effective.

All children will still receive their regular reports and assessments, as well as their learning journey profiles.  We will also track the progress in the areas we have jointly identified with you to ensure we are on track and maximising the additional support each child is receiving. Sometimes these meetings will be included with the consultation session with your child’s key person, but on occasions it might be better to discuss progress with the adult who is providing the additional activity or support.
